Origenes Bolivianos

Bolivian food paired with a folkloric dinner show

Origenes is a dinner-and-show restaurant on Calle Azurduy that pulls together a survey of Bolivia's regional cuisines and folkloric music traditions into one evening. The set menu cycles through plates from the altiplano (chairo, llama meat), the valleys (silpancho, picante de pollo), and the lowlands (fish from the Amazonian rivers), accompanied by a live performance of dances from each region — Caporales, Diablada, Tinku — in full costume.

The food is decent rather than outstanding, and the show is unashamedly aimed at tourists, but the music and dancing are first-rate. It is a useful introduction to Bolivia's cultural geography if you are spending only a few days in the country. Two seatings per night, around 7 and 9. Reservations recommended.
