Centro Cultural dos Povos da Amazônia

Cultural centre devoted to Amazonian peoples

A modern cultural complex on the southern edge of the Bola da Suframa, the Centro Cultural dos Povos da Amazônia houses three permanent museums under one roof: of the indigenous peoples (Museu do Índio), of seringueiros and rubber tappers, and of numismatic history of the Amazon region. The building itself is open and airy, with a small auditorium for concerts and screenings.

Of the three exhibitions, the seringueiros museum is the most unexpected — explaining the tools, life and politics of the rubber-tapping families whose work built the Manaus that visitors come to see today. The complex is free to enter and rarely crowded.
