Kingsmead Cricket Ground

Test cricket ground with a sea breeze that famously aids swing bowling

Kingsmead is Durban's Test cricket ground, home of the Dolphins franchise and one of the most distinctive venues in the world game. The proximity of the Indian Ocean creates a famous afternoon breeze that swings the ball late, and the most lopsided Tests in South African history have happened here when the conditions favoured seamers.

If a Test, a one-day international or a domestic T20 is on, the ground fills with a mixed Durban crowd, the bunny chow stalls do brisk business and the atmosphere is unlike anywhere else. The Castle Lager Grandstand has the best views. Out of season, you can sometimes book a behind-the-scenes tour.
