The Natural Science Museum occupies the ground floor of the City Hall and is exactly the kind of old-style natural history museum that has otherwise disappeared from most European capitals: glass cases, taxidermy, mineralogy drawers, and a sense that you might learn something specific in an hour. The highlight is a complete dodo skeleton, one of very few in the world.
Other galleries cover African mammals, KwaZulu-Natal birds and insects, and a small Egyptology section. Free entry, open weekdays and Saturday mornings. Children find more to do here than in most South African museums.
