Lugou Bridge, also known as Marco Polo Bridge, is a stone bridge over the Yongding River dating from the late 12th century. Its carved lions and long history would make it notable on their own, but the bridge is also remembered as the site of the 1937 incident that marked the start of full-scale war between China and Japan.
