Ming Dynasty City Wall Site Park preserves one of the last substantial fragments of Beijing's old inner city wall. The wall was built from the 15th century onward and once ran for more than 20 km, but most of it was demolished in the 20th century for roads, rail, and modern redevelopment.
The surviving stretch behind Beijing Railway Station is about 1.5 km long and has been restored as a linear park. It is most rewarding for visitors interested in the older shape of Beijing before the ring roads and metro lines replaced the city walls.
