Olympic Green (Olympic Park)

The park built for the 2008 Summer Olympics, housing the Bird's Nest, Water Cube, and several other venues from the Games, with large landscaped open spaces connecting them. The park is worth an afternoon — partly for the architectural experience of the two main stadiums, partly because the scale of the development is itself a statement about modern China's ambitions. In 2022, the same venues hosted key Winter Olympic events.

The park is in northern Chaoyang District, about 30 minutes by subway from the city centre (Line 8, Olympic Sports Centre or Forest Park stations). The surrounding Olympic Forest Park extends north with a lake, running tracks, and extensive green space — one of the larger parks in the city and popular with Beijing joggers on weekends.
