Badi Lake

A large artificial lake about 12 km west of Udaipur, Badi Lake was built in the late 17th century by Maharana Raj Singh I to provide famine relief — a public-works project that gave employment to drought-stricken villagers. Today it is a quiet escape from the city: ringed by low hills, with a few small dhabas on the eastern shore and almost no tourist development.

Best at sunset, when locals come to fish or simply sit on the dam wall and watch the light. Bring a packet of bhujia from town and join them. Reachable by auto-rickshaw or a hired scooter.
