Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary

The 5.5-sq-km wildlife sanctuary that surrounds the Monsoon Palace — a patch of dry deciduous forest on the Bansdara hill, home to leopards, hyenas, sambar deer, wild boar, and rich birdlife. The road up to the palace runs through it, and on a quiet evening you have a real chance of spotting deer browsing in the headlights.

For a longer visit, hire a jeep from the gate at the bottom; rangers can usually point you to a recently used leopard trail or a tree where a nesting eagle owl sits. Best at dawn and dusk; bring binoculars.
