Ahar Cenotaphs

On the eastern edge of town, the royal Ahar Cenotaphs are a quiet field of 250 carved-marble chhatris — small domed memorials marking the cremation sites of the Mewar maharanas going back to the mid-16th century. The setting is unkempt and slightly melancholy, the cenotaphs leaning at angles, weeds growing through the stones.

A small archaeological museum on site holds finds from the nearby 4,000-year-old Ahar civilisation site, including pottery and copper tools. Almost no tourists; one of Udaipur's more atmospheric and underrated stops.
