An unexpected gem: Hindustan Zinc's small but well-designed museum near Sukher tells the long history of zinc mining in southern Rajasthan, which goes back over 2,000 years. The display includes recovered ancient retorts, distillation furnaces, and an excellent model of the medieval Zawar mines (the world's first known site of large-scale zinc smelting, in the 12th–13th centuries).
Entry is free. Of obvious interest to anyone with a metallurgical bent, but engagingly presented for the general visitor as well. About 20 minutes by auto from the old city.
