The largest and most visited temple in Udaipur, built in 1651 in the Indo-Aryan style and dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Climb the steep steps flanked by stone elephants to reach the main shrine, which has a black stone image of Vishnu. The exterior is heavily carved with dancers, musicians, elephants, and horsemen.
Located right in the heart of the old city, you will pass it repeatedly while exploring. The evening aarti (prayer ceremony) draws a crowd and fills the surrounding lanes with incense smoke and bells.
