Pemuteran

Quiet northwest Bali beach village known for coral restoration and Menjangan reef trips.

Pemuteran is one of the rare Bali beach towns where the best thing is still the water, not the scene around it. It sits on the dry northwest coast, far from the south-coast traffic, with black sand, fishing boats, and reef just offshore.

The village earns a stop because its anchors are close and distinctive. The Biorock Pemuteran reef restoration project makes the bay more than a pretty snorkelling spot, while Menjangan Island is one of Bali's strongest day trips for clear water, coral walls, and diving. Inland, Bukit Batu Kursi gives a short, hot climb to a temple hill and coast views, and Pura Pulaki brings north Bali's sea-temple tradition right to the roadside.

Pemuteran is best treated as a slow base for two or three nights. If you only have one spare day in north Bali, it is still a good one: snorkel in the morning, climb before sunset, and let the south of the island feel very far away.
