Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture

A first-rate museum focused specifically on Nagasaki's history of foreign exchange, from the Portuguese arrival in 1543 through Dejima, the Christian century, and the opening to the West in 1858. The collection includes original maps, fumi-e plaques, Dutch trading registers, and Chinese ceramics that arrived via the city. A reconstruction of the Nagasaki Magistrate's Office occupies part of the site — the building where the famous interrogations of hidden Christians took place. Allow 90 minutes. Combine with Suwa Shrine, which is just up the hill.
