The second of the Pokhara Valley lakes, about 15 km east of town. Begnas is bigger than Phewa, surrounded by terraced rice fields rather than the tourist strip, and has fewer than a tenth of the visitors. A few small resorts have appeared along the shore but the place still feels essentially rural.
You can row the lake in a hired wooden boat, swim safely (unusual for Nepal), or walk the ridge between Begnas and the smaller, neighbouring Rupa Lake. Visiting in a half-day from Pokhara is easy by taxi or local bus to Begnas village; a night stay in one of the small lakeside lodges is the better way to do it if you have the time.
