A medium-sized limestone cave on the northern edge of the city, popular with Nepali tourists for its stalactites and the small Shiva shrine at its centre. The cave was named after King Mahendra after his visit in the 1950s. The interior is well-lit and reasonably easy to walk through, though some sections require a stoop.
Nearby is the Bat Cave (Chamero Gufa), a smaller and tighter cave that, as the name promises, is home to a colony of horseshoe bats — bring a flashlight and prepare for some scrambling. The two caves can be combined in a morning trip from Lakeside; modest entrance fee for each.
