Blue Area

The Blue Area is Islamabad's central business district — a long strip running east-west along Jinnah Avenue between the sectors of F-6 and G-7. The name comes from the colour Greek architect Constantinos Doxiadis used on his original 1960s master plan to denote the commercial zone.

Banks, airlines, ministries and the high-rises of the major Pakistani corporations line the avenue. It is a useful orientation strip — most of the city's restaurants, embassies and government offices are within a few kilometres of it — but more functional than picturesque. The eastern end leads up to the Shakarparian hills and the Pakistan Monument.
