Daman-e-Koh

Daman-e-Koh is a hilltop garden and viewpoint in the Margalla Hills, about a fifteen-minute drive north of central Islamabad. From the main terrace you get a wide panorama of the capital's grid layout, with Faisal Mosque prominent below and the Margalla range rising behind.

There is a small restaurant and snack bar run by the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation. The spot is popular with families in the late afternoon and evening, when the light over the city is at its best. Monkeys roam the surrounding forest and sometimes appear on the pathways. The road up is well-maintained and the site is free to enter.

A story
The name is Persian for 'foothills.' The terrace was laid out in the 1960s by the Capital Development Authority as a viewpoint over the new capital — the architect's drawing pinned to the wall of the small visitor centre still shows what was at the time a city of mostly empty avenues.
