Kaohsiung's Confucius Temple stands near Lotus Pond, away from the densest commercial parts of the city, and its scale is part of the appeal. The broad courtyards, red columns, rooflines, and ceremonial calm make it feel quite different from the livelier folk temples around the lake.
It is worth combining with the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, Spring and Autumn Pavilions, and the other sights around Lotus Pond. Come on a weekday morning if you want the architecture and symmetry without tour-group noise.
