Wat Ratchapradit

Quiet royal temple near the Grand Palace with King Rama IV connections.

Wat Ratchapradit is a compact royal temple just south of the Grand Palace, built in the 1860s on land that had once been a royal coffee plantation. It is much quieter than the headline temples nearby, but the royal image hall rewards a stop with murals, ceremonial objects, and memorial links to King Rama IV.

The temple works best as a calm detour while walking between Wat Pho, the Grand Palace, and the old government quarter. Look for the murals showing royal ceremonies and the objects associated with Rama IV, including lamps, clocks, and other gifts from abroad.
