Wat Traimit

Five-ton solid gold Buddha discovered hidden beneath plaster

Near Hua Lamphong railway station at the edge of Chinatown, Wat Traimit is home to the Golden Buddha -- a three-metre-high, five-and-a-half-ton solid gold image that was accidentally discovered beneath a plaster exterior in the 1950s. The multi-storey exhibition centre beneath the image tells the story well. Open daily 9 am to 5 pm.
