Heeresgeschichtliches Museum

The Heeresgeschichtliches Museum is Vienna's major military history museum, housed in the Arsenal southeast of the center. Its collections cover weapons, uniforms, maps, and military art from several periods of Austrian and Habsburg history.

The best-known exhibit is the car in which Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo in 1914, an event that helped trigger the First World War. The museum rewards visitors with an interest in Central European history, but the building and set-piece displays also make it more than a specialist stop.
