One of Germany's better-regarded zoos, redeveloped in the lead-up to Expo 2000 around the idea of large naturalistic enclosures rather than cages. The themed zones — Gorilla Mountain, Jungle Palace, Meyers Hof (a working German farmstead), Sambesi (a boat ride past African savannah animals), Yukon Bay (Canadian coast and tundra) and Outback — let you cross continents in an afternoon. It borders directly on the Eilenriede forest, so you can combine a visit with a long walk.
