The Palea Kavala waterfall sits in a shaded valley above Kavala, reached by a scenic trail that starts beyond Neo Zigos and follows a stream through trees and old quarry country. In early summer there is usually enough water for a cold rest stop; later in the season the flow can dry out.
Allow time to continue up toward the village of Palea Kavala, where tavernas make a natural end point before returning by the same path or the parallel road.
