Dublin Zoo, founded in 1831, is one of the oldest zoos in the world and occupies 28 hectares in the western section of Phoenix Park. It houses around 400 animals across a range of habitats including the African Savanna, the Asian Forests, and the Orangutan Forest.
The zoo is popular with families and gets busy at weekends and during school holidays. Tickets are cheaper booked online in advance. The Phoenix Park setting makes it easy to combine with a walk in the park itself — the deer herd grazes freely along the roads outside the zoo perimeter.
