The Savoy Cinema

Dublin's oldest cinema (1929) with an Art Deco interior and Ireland's premier premiere venue

Address 17 Upper O'Connell Street, Dublin 1

The Savoy is Dublin's oldest surviving cinema, opened in 1929 with an Art Deco interior that has been partially preserved through successive refurbishments. It remains the premier venue for major Irish film premieres, and the large Screen 1 — one of the biggest cinema screens in Ireland — still has something of the original picture palace atmosphere.

The cinema is in a central location on O'Connell Street, making it a natural choice before or after a walk along the street. Like many large cinemas it shows mainstream releases, but the building and Screen 1 in particular are worth experiencing.
