The northernmost of Siena's city gates, on the old road from Florence. The inner arch carries the inscription Cor magis tibi Sena pandit — "Siena opens her heart to you wider than this gate" — added in 1604 to welcome a Medici grand duchess. It is the unofficial motto of the city.
