The Benedictine abbey at the foot of the Bock cliff is now Luxembourg's main cultural centre. The buildings have served as a monastery, a barracks, a prison (Hitler's army used it for political prisoners), and a state archive before their conversion into a venue for concerts, exhibitions, and conferences in 2004.
The complex is freely walkable — wander into the courtyard, climb to the gardens at the back, and the cloister-style café is good for a coffee with a view back up at the casemates. The summer concert programme (jazz, classical, blues) is one of the city's better cultural offers.
