Cercle Municipal

The exuberant Beaux-Arts building dominating the western side of Place d'Armes. Built 1907–1909 by Pierre and Paul Funck as a civic events hall — and still used as such today. The frieze running the length of the facade depicts Countess Ermesinde granting the city its freedom charter in 1244.

Worth a look from the outside; the interior is only open during scheduled events. Just behind it, on Rue Notre-Dame, is the discreet entrance to the tourist office.
