The city museum is squeezed into four interconnected 17th-century townhouses on Rue du Saint-Esprit. The clever architectural intervention by Conny Lentz threads a glass lift through the historic shells; ride it from cellar to roof for a section through 1,000 years of city building. The permanent display runs from the foundation of the fortress to the EU era, with the cellars showing the actual rock-cut foundations of the medieval town.
A solid two-hour visit. The roof terrace has one of the better views over the Grund and the Bock. Free on the first Sunday of the month.
