Ural Opera and Ballet Theatre

An imposing pre-revolutionary opera house from 1912 with a neo-baroque facade and a small park in front. The Ural Opera has built a strong national reputation since the 2000s under conductor Vyacheslav Samodurov and director Alexander Titel, mounting adventurous productions — Verdi alongside Glass and Bryars — and touring widely.

Tickets are inexpensive by Moscow standards, and a Friday or Saturday performance is one of the best evenings in the city.
