Ekaterinburg's attractions range from sombre historical sites to world-class mineral collections. The Cathedral on the Blood dominates any visit, but the city rewards those who dig deeper — the Rastorguev-Kharitonov estate, the constructivist architecture of the 1920s and 1930s, and the excellent Geological Museum are all worth your time. The Europe-Asia border monument, about 40 km west of the city, is the classic photo stop. The Yeltsin Center is one of the finest museums in Russia, and the Keyboard Monument by the river is one of the most charming pieces of urban silliness anywhere in the country.
