The main square of Yekaterinburg, named for the Russian revolution of 1905 in which workers from the city's foundries took part. A Lenin statue stands in the centre; the City Administration and a large pre-revolutionary department store form the south side.
In December and January the square becomes the location of the Ural Ice Town — an annual festival of immense ice sculptures built around a theme, lit at night, and surrounded by ice slides — a Yekaterinburg tradition since 1990.
