Ancient Gerulata

Roman military remains in Rusovce, part of the Danube Limes UNESCO World Heritage landscape

Ancient Gerulata preserves the remains of a Roman military site in Rusovce, south of central Bratislava. It was part of the frontier system along the Danube, where Rome watched the edge of its empire across the river landscapes of Central Europe.

The site is modest in size, but its value is high because it places Bratislava inside a much older Danube story than medieval castles and Habsburg streets. It is best visited by travellers interested in archaeology or as part of a southern Bratislava circuit that also includes Rusovce and the Danube floodplain.
