The Chatam Sofer Mausoleum is one of Bratislava's most important Jewish heritage sites. It preserves the grave of Rabbi Moses Sofer, known as the Chatam Sofer, along with a small surviving section of the old Jewish cemetery that was largely destroyed during wartime tunnel construction.
The memorial is underground and deliberately restrained, which gives the visit a very different tone from the city's castles, squares, and statues. It is a place for context and respect rather than casual sightseeing. Check visitor arrangements before going, as access is more controlled than at open public monuments.
