Bratislava Zoo occupies a forested hillside in the Kamzík nature reserve north of the city, giving it a significantly more spacious and naturalistic setting than most European zoos. The collection includes over 600 species, with particular strengths in large mammals (elephants, giraffes, big cats) and Central European wildlife. The terrain means the zoo works best on a dry day — the paths are hilly and can get muddy.
The zoo is popular with Bratislava families and is well-maintained. A cable car (lanová dráha) connects the zoo entrance to the upper areas, and the tower at the top of Kamzík hill (Kamzík TV Tower) offers views over the city and the Danube plain. The forest paths around the zoo are pleasant for a walk even without entering the zoo itself.
Getting there requires a bus from the city centre (bus 43 from Koliba). Allow a full morning or afternoon.
