Slovak National Museum – Natural History

The Slovak National Museum's Natural History branch occupies part of Bratislava Castle and covers the natural history of Slovakia from the prehistoric period to the present. The collections include an extensive mineralogy section, palaeontology displays with dinosaur fossils found in Slovakia, and natural history dioramas covering the Carpathian ecosystems.

The museum is particularly strong on the geology of the Carpathian region, which has an unusually varied geological history due to the collision of tectonic plates that formed the mountains. The prehistoric section covers the period before human habitation and includes specimens unique to the Slovak fossil record.

Entry is included with the general Bratislava Castle ticket. Allow 1–2 hours if the natural sciences interest you. The museum is better suited to adults with a specific interest than to casual visitors.
