Estació del Nord

Valencia's main train station, opened in 1917 in a Modernista style by Demetrio Ribes. The exterior is decorated with orange-blossom mosaics — the symbol of Valencia's huerta — and Catalan-inspired curves of wrought iron and tile. The vestibule is even better than the façade: a vaulted hall of polychrome trencadís mosaic, wood panelling, and stained glass that looks more like a cathedral than a station.

You don't need a ticket to wander in and look up. AVE high-speed services no longer call here — they use the adjoining Joaquín Sorolla station — but regional and Cercanías trains still depart from the main hall.
