Iglesia de los Santos Juanes

A Gothic-turned-Baroque church facing the Mercado Central, severely damaged in the Spanish Civil War when the interior was burned in 1936 — the great Antonio Palomino frescos on the vault were destroyed and only fragments remain. The exterior, with its asymmetrical bell tower nicknamed "the elephant of Valencia," is the iconic backdrop in many photos of the market.

A long-running restoration has slowly brought back the interior. Worth a glance in passing from the market or the Lonja, especially if the doors are open for a service.
