Church of the Saviour at Berestovo

Medieval church near Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, tied to princely Kyiv and later Baroque restoration.

The Church of the Saviour at Berestovo stands just outside the main Kyiv Pechersk Lavra complex, but it belongs to the same deep historical landscape of princely Kyiv, monastic power, and sacred architecture on the Dnipro heights. Its surviving medieval fabric and later Baroque rebuilding make it more layered than a quick glance suggests.

It is easy to miss if you rush through the Lavra's headline churches and caves. Give it a few minutes on the way in or out, especially if you are interested in how Kyiv's older Rus' churches were repaired, reshaped, and reinterpreted over centuries rather than frozen in one period.
