The highest point on the Icefields Parkway is Bow Summit, 2,088 metres above sea level. From the parking area, a short uphill trail leads to the Peyto Lake lookout, where the lake spreads out below in an almost improbable shade of turquoise — the colour comes from glacial rock flour suspended in the meltwater. The view is one of the most photographed in the Canadian Rockies.
The lake sits about 190 km south of Jasper and 40 km north of Lake Louise. Come early in the morning to beat the tour buses and get the best light.
