Sunshine Village is one of Banff's major ski areas, reached by road and gondola southwest of town. In winter it offers long runs, high alpine bowls, and reliable snow in a setting that feels properly inside the Rockies rather than merely beside them. For many skiers, it is one of the main reasons to base a trip in Banff.
Outside ski season, the area shifts toward sightseeing and hiking, with access to meadows and high-country trails when conditions allow. It is far enough from town that you should treat it as a half-day or full-day outing, not a quick stop, and mountain weather can change the plan quickly.
