The Anacostia Community Museum is a Smithsonian museum east of the Anacostia River, focused on local history, community life, and African-American experience in Washington, D.C. It is smaller and much less visited than the museums on the National Mall, but the exhibitions are thoughtful and rooted in the city around it.
Come here when you want a view of Washington beyond the federal monuments. It pairs well with other Anacostia stops if you have time to cross the river.
