Thurgood Marshall Center for Service and Heritage

The Thurgood Marshall Center for Service and Heritage occupies the former YMCA in Shaw, built in 1912 and designed by W. Sidney Pittman, one of the first Black architects in the United States.

Thurgood Marshall was a frequent visitor, and part of his work on the Brown v. Board of Education decision was done here. The first-floor exhibit on African American life in Shaw makes the building worth seeking out.
