Washington's Spanish Steps climb a steep corner of Kalorama, northwest of Dupont Circle. They were inspired by Rome's famous steps and once led toward Kalorama Mansion; today they rise past a small fountain to a quiet neighbourhood view.
This is a small, elegant detour rather than a major monument. It works best as part of a walk through Dupont Circle and Kalorama, especially on a warm evening when the stone steps and shaded houses feel far from the busier avenues below.
