Carter G. Woodson Home

The Carter G. Woodson Home preserves the house where the historian, publisher, and educator Carter G. Woodson lived and worked. Woodson founded Negro History Week here in 1926, the observance that later grew into Black History Month.

The site is part of the National Park Service and is most interesting for visitors tracing African-American history in Washington. Check current access before going, as tours and interior visits can be limited.
