Casa de los Pavos Reales is one of the more expressive early 20th-century buildings on Avenida Rivadavia, designed by the Italian-Argentine architect Virginio Colombo. Its name comes from the peacock ornamentation on the facade, a flourish that fits Buenos Aires's taste for theatrical apartment-house architecture.
The building is privately used, so most visitors come for the exterior. Architecture fans should add it to a westward walk along Rivadavia, where the city's everyday streetscape still hides flashes of Art Nouveau and modernist ambition.
