The Colección de Arte Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat is Puerto Madero's standout cultural attraction, a private art museum housing the collection of one of Argentina's wealthiest women, the cement heiress and businesswoman Amalia Fortabat. Opened in 2008 in a striking glass-and-steel building on the northern dock, its retractable louvred roof was designed to protect the works from the river light.
The collection ranges widely — Argentine masters such as Antonio Berni and Raquel Forner, alongside international names including Turner, Brueghel, Klimt, Dalí, and Andy Warhol's portrait of Fortabat herself. The building's architecture and waterfront setting are part of the appeal, and it makes the best indoor counterpoint to Puerto Madero's open-air attractions. Check opening days before visiting, as it closes early in the week.
