Parque Rivadavia Book Market

Address Avenida Rivadavia 4900, Caballito

A permanent open-air market in the Caballito neighbourhood where dozens of dealers sell second-hand books, comics, records, and magazines from tables under the shade of large plane trees. The market has been running since the 1950s and occupies a pleasant park at the junction of Rivadavia and Acoyte — about 30 minutes from the centre by subway (Line A to Caballito station).

The stock is mostly Spanish-language, with particular strengths in Argentine history, science fiction (the Buenos Aires SF scene is substantial), and popular music. First editions of important Argentine authors — Borges, Cortázar, Arlt — turn up occasionally, though prices are no longer the bargain they once were. Comics, particularly old Argentine adventure strips, remain a good find. The dealers are knowledgeable and usually willing to talk about their stock.
