Monument to the Venezuelan Federation

The Monument to the Venezuelan Federation stands on the eastern edge of Coro, a tall obelisk surrounded by a circular plaza. It commemorates the Federal War of 1859–1863 and the Liberal victory that turned Venezuela from a centralist into a federal republic — a struggle in which Falcón State played a leading role.

The monument is a popular spot for evening walks; the open ground around it catches the breeze off the coast and there are usually street vendors selling iced drinks. Not a destination in itself, but pleasant if you are passing through on the road east toward La Vela.
